Behind The Scenes with World Duty Free

Some of you may know but in about 3 and a half weeks, I’m going to be travelling like there’s no tomorrow. Munich, Dubai, Mumbai & Gujarat to be precise. I was super lucky enough to be invited by World Duty Free (WDF) to go behind the scenes of their AW14 filming – which will be on their YouTube Channel very soon!

One thing I absolutely love about WDF (besides the fact that it’s tax free) but there are so many travel exclusives which I personally wish we could get them everywhere… But then again, it wouldn’t be as fun doing any shopping at the airport!

I had the chance to ask Claire Ray, their celebrity MUA on set, some questions about her favourite beauty bits as well as the AW14 trends. So without any more rambling on my behalf, here we go…

Q: What is going to be the biggest AW14 makeup trend for the season?

Eyes are the main focus this season – or more precisely, lashes. Extra long, false eyelashes were used to give models a doll like look, and clumpy, clogged mascara was a key trend on the catwalk, which really emphasized natural lashes.

Q: If AW14 was to be a colour, which one would it be?

There was a rainbow of coloured eyeliner flicks used this season, but I think metallic green, was the prettiest, and most wearable. So if A/W this year could be just one colour, it would be that as it was such an adaptable and easy to re-create trend too.

Q: If there is one makeup item every girl should switch up for A/W which one should it be?

Definitely swap your light, nude eyeshadows for dark, sultry tones like plums, dark greens and browns. To top off your autumn look, try maximising impact with a stroke of dark, thick eyeliner. My favourite at the moment is the Benefit Push Up eyeliner – it’s very easy to use when you’re on the go and really hugs the lashes. And if you’re travelling, World Duty Free also do a lovely, handy duo set with the Benefit eyeliner and They’re Real Mascara all in one.

Q: What is your ultimate secret makeup tip?

When applying lip colour, if you have full lips, opt for a matte lipstick, but if your lips are slightly thinner, use a gloss. The hydrating ingredients in glosses are extra plumping and the high shine finish reflects the light, which makes them appear fuller. Dab a bit of shimmer or highlighter on top of the cupids bow too as this adds light to the area and creates the illusion of larger lips.

Q: What is your best skincare tip or trick for this coming AW14 season?

The harsh, cold weather and lack sun can really dry your skin. Keep your complexion radiant by investing in a good exfoliator like Elemis Papaya Enzyme Peel. Use this with a soft facial brush to remove dry skin and stubborn makeup, and then instantly hydrate with Clarins Blue Orchid Face Treatment Oil. This will leave your skin incredibly soft and will improve the appearance of your foundation, as it will glide straight on for a healthy glow.

Q: What is the one makeup product you cannot live without?

Highlighters are my must-have essential wherever I am in the world. A good highlighter is the easiest way to create a youthful, dewy look – it perks up your complexion and accentuates your best features. One of my favourites is Benefit’s High Beam – it instantly revives tired skin and helps to turn back the clock.

Now ladies, I hope this has got you in the mood for AW14 which is well and truly upon us! Do you have any AW14 tips, tricks or trends to share with everyone? If so, leave a comment below 🙂
