If you’ve watched any tutorial of mine, or even follow me on Instagram or Twitter, you’ll know that I love a good contour & highlight. In my Valentine’s day tutorial, I actually contoured & highlighted using foundations – I was inundated with requests on doing a full routine video on it. So, although I uploaded this video the other week, I thought it was about time I also shared this foundation contour and highlight routine on my blog.
Personally, I love doing this will really light-weight foundations. Something creamy, glowy and natural. You don’t want to go in with a matte, heavy foundation on the skin, as this won’t work in your favour. Keep it light and keep it glam 😉 My personal favourites are the EX-1 foundations and the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum foundations.
I like to use my normal skin shade for my highlight and around 2 to 3 times darker shade than my skin tone for the contour. I do like to go over top of the highlighted areas with a highlighting pen (think MAC Prep + Prime, L’Oreal Magic Lumi or the Touche Eclat) to add more dimension to the face.
I use 2 tips that help me when doing this. Using separate brushes to blend out the contour and highlight as well as spraying each brush with some Fix+ spray to create that super blended and seamless look. You can totally use a beauty blender if you wish – I just prefer using brushes for this technique.
It’s time for me to quit jibber-jabbing and let you crack on and watch the tutorial. I hope you find it useful. If you haven’t tried contouring before then this is one of the most natural looking ways to get into it. Go on, give it a go!
P.S – you now also know what to do when you accidentally get a foundation shade which is too dark for you 😉
